Is there a plan/timeline to push the NCIT OE to BioPortal? We would love our tools to be able to query it through BioPortal API and yield concepts whose purls resolve correctly.....

Hi @DanBerrios

Not totally sure what OE is

But this brings up an interesting question - NCIT with native NCIT URIs is available on BP I believe. Would it create confusion to have the "OBO version" there too? cc @graybeal

NCIT OBO Edition; you're answering the right question. :-)

I think the labeling is key. As long as the acronym (especially that!), the title, metadata, and the IRIs are all consistent and distinctly OBO, the confusion will I hope be manageable.

(Mind you, users of our CEDAR tool will be totally lost, since most of what it shows to end users are labels. This will drive us to provide necessary context in CEDAR, definitely our problem not yours.)

It thoroughly goes to the fundamental question about re-use vs re-create, though, doesn't it? Is that the only difference, is it identical in every other way except you've changed the URIs?

Thanks for asking, let me know when you are doing to drop the release of OE into BioPortal so I can help prepare everyone!

@graybeal the NCIT OBO Edition is mostly a straightforward transformation: we changed the URIs, and also swapped in OBO standard properties for definition, synonyms, etc. And the URIs for terms and the ontology itself are resolvable.

Yes, sorry. OE = OBO Edition.
If someone plans to push it to BioPortal, do let us know... I will tell our curating team to start looking for those concepts and using them rather than NCIT. Thanks

Hello, I'd like to follow up on this thread to see if you plan to push OBO edition to BioPortal? I work in the group with @DanBerrios and we use a lot of NCIT ontologies in our repo so it'd be very helpful if there is OBO edition that the hyperlinks can go to the individual class ontology links. Thank you!
