Today I tried to download few files from a HTTPS server without success - without pointing to the CA cert file there's a handshake problem, but with appropriate option a "core dumped" problem appears. Sometimes information about free() appears, and --check-certificate=false also don't help to solve that issue.
Device is Raspberry Pi 3, OpenELEC 6.95.3(I see that aria2c sadly isn't available in 6.0.3), my server uses configuration from https://mozilla.github.io/server-side-tls/ssl-config-generator/ , "modern" one - I haven't figured how to download gdb, so I can't provide at the moment any further information.
