State of the Project & To-Do List

Hey everyone,

it's been a while since the last update. While I did receive many feature requests and bug reports already, I gotta be honest: I currently do not have the motivation to work on this project. Real life kicked in with some serious bs that was out of my control and I got other stuff to worry about at the moment.

That being said, I'm not abandoning the project, not by a long shot! I love it too much for that. All I'm saying is that I'm taking a break from it for the time being.

Please, please, PLEASE keep your feature requests and bug reports coming!🙏I know how I work mentally; one day I will just get the motivation and do everything at once. It's gonna be good to have as much stuff to do as possible then, who knows when the next time I'm gonna have the capacity for this is gonna be.

Here's a list of all the stuff that's currently on my to-do list.

New Features:

• Save custom presets
• Import/export settings
• Make the control buttons size customizable
• Replace 'Always Show Everything' with the ability to individually customize the tracklist columns
• Option to disable context thumbnail individually
• Allow for customizing the number of lines before the text cuts off
• Replace "Current Time" with "Remaining Time" option
• Make lyrics dimming optional
• Full-width lyrics option while tracklist is hidden
• Automatically disable dark mode after a certain timeout option
• Make background brightness, saturation, and blur intensity customizable
• Make opacity text optional (use darkened colors instead)
• Group albums visually in tracklist option (no idea how to design this though)
• Reintroduce "Guess Next Track" as an optional, experimental feature (disabled by default)
• Add a keep screen awake / no-sleep mode button
• Option to control the scrolling centering behavior of the current song in a tracklist
• Make next track and clock individual options
• Clock in top content option
• Compact artist/title option (e.g "Artist • Track" in one line rather than underneath each other)
• Make current and total timestamp options individually toggleable
• Option for background to use artist images instead of album covers
• Make the blacklist and whitelist for Strip Titles customizable

• Option to decide how the tracklist is horizontally aligned (currently it's always centered)

Improvements:

• Add some sort of notification when the lyrics for the current song can't be found
• Find a way to get certain color ranges around red-violet-blue to be brighter
• Round dB values for custom configs depending on direction
• Disable gradient on the tracklist when it's not necessary
• Dynamically resize column width in the tracklist based on the currently visible portion
• Visually indicate when the lyrics will start to scroll (shrinking line or something)
• Hide lyrics scrollbar while lyrics aren't moving
• Add subcategory headers to remote control
• Implement Spotify API spam timeout within the Java side
• Hide mouse cursor during idle mode as well
• Use the secondary dominant color when the primary color is too dark for the perceived brightness test
• Try to fetch higher-res album covers from Genius
• Make protected/unaffected settings a dynamic system with a lock button next to the settings
• Make playback controls password protected instead of disabling them by environment variable (the password itself will be the env var)
• Add checkmarks/crosses for toasts from the remote control
• Predict the play/pause state for Guess Next Track (such as when it reaches the end of a playlist)

Bug Fixes:

• Fix all the issues with lyrics auto-scroll synchronization when switching, pausing, or seeking songs
• Fix lyrics not being found sometimes, usually when the song contains special characters
• Fix spaces after - sometimes getting eaten up during text balance
• Fix the delay before text balancing kicks in (...again)
• Fix the tracklist's scaling sometimes flying all over the place for no reason
• Fix vertical centering in the tracklist (half-tile)
• Fix queues sometimes being super short for one request and then reverting to the full queue
• Add a failsafe for the tracklist to not display if it super doesn't match the context (such as a playlist exclusively made of local songs)
• Fix stripping for this weird format: ( Re- Release )

Low Priority:

• Rewrite the entire app to be JavaScript-only, as the Java-based setup tends to be rather tedious
• Replace the render engine with WebGL or something to increase performance and also allow for more fancy effects
• Multi-device support for remote control
• Implement i18n and add German localization
• A first-start setup tool to guide people through the complicated Spotify API setup process
• Allow for custom rewrite of all meta tags for albums, artists, tracks...
