#### DNS server Setup:
* DNS server setup using Ubuntu 14.04 for RH436.
```
# sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
# sudo apt-get install bind9 dnsutils -y
# cd /etc/bind/ && ls -l
```
Forwaders:
----------
Edit the named.conf to define forwaders
```
# sudo vim named.conf.options
```
change the forwaders
```
forwarders {
192.168.0.1;
};
```
Restart the service and dig using localhost
```
# sudo /etc/init.d/bind9 start
# dig @127.0.0.1 google.com
```
Edit the name.conf.local to define database file.
```
# sudo vim /etc/bind/named.conf.local
```
Append the below zone file location
```
zone "example.com" {
type master;
file "/etc/bind/db.example.com";
};
```
Make a copy of db file from template
```
# sudo cp db.local db.example.com
# sudo vim db.example.com
```
* Append the content to Zone database file
```
;
; BIND data file for local loopback interface
;
$TTL 604800
@ IN SOA example.com. root.db.example.com. (
2014112301 ; Serial
604800 ; Refresh
86400 ; Retry
2419200 ; Expire
604800 ) ; Negative Cache TTL
;
@ IN NS ns.example.com.
ns IN A 192.168.0.200
node2.public.cluster1 IN A 172.16.0.1
node1.private.cluster1 IN A 172.17.0.1
node3.storage1.cluster1 IN A 172.18.0.1
node4.storage2.cluster1 IN A 172.19.0.1
```
Restart the service
```
# sudo service bind9 restart
# dig @127.0.0.1 node2.public.cluster1.example.com
```
Edit the network settings
``
# sudo vim /etc/network/interfaces
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.200
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
network 192.168.0.0
broadcast 192.168.0.255
dns-nameservers 127.0.0.1
dns-search example.com
post-up route add -net 172.16.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.0.254
post-up route add -net 172.17.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.0.254
post-up route add -net 172.18.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.0.254
post-up route add -net 172.19.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.0.254
```
* Restart using
```
# sudo ifdown eth0 && sudo ifup eth0
```
Reserve Lookup:
--------------
* Define reserve lookup for each network.
```
# sudo vim /etc/bind/named.conf.local
```
Append the db file localtion
```
zone "0.16.172.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
notify no;
file "/etc/bind/db.example.com192";
};
zone "0.17.172.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
notify no;
file "/etc/bind/db.example.com192-1";
};
zone "0.18.172.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
notify no;
file "/etc/bind/db.example.com192-2";
};
zone "0.19.172.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
notify no;
file "/etc/bind/db.example.com192-3";
};
```
Make a copy of template and create files.
``
# sudo cp db.127 db.example.com192
# sudo cp db.127 db.example.com192-1
# sudo cp db.127 db.example.com192-2
# sudo cp db.127 db.example.com192-3
```
Edit the file
```
# sudo vim db.example.com192
```
Changes as per our RH436 Host needed name resolved.
