Hi,

as the title says, I'm am using KeePass version 2.45. After working flawlessly for a couple of days, suddenly I got the error message "The following plugin is incompatible with the current KeePass version..." on startup and wasn't able to log in my Yubikey-encrypted database any more.

I tried to reinstall KeePass after deinstalling and cleaning all related folders - to no effect. Neither worked installing the portable version instead of the regular.

Are there any other approaches to solve this I could try?`

Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards!

Hi,

I currently struggle with the same problem. I am using KeePass 2.45 since a couple of weeks and starting today, I get the same error. Considering that I haven't changed or updated anything KeePass related etc. it could be related to the operating system - who knows if there were some recent changes in Windows 10 that changed or broke something for me. I will test the issue on some other devices later.

Edit:
I used my Surface 4 laptop that I haven't beeng using for like 2-3 months and everything was working well and I could retrieve my database (Win 10 64bit, KeePass 2.44 and KeeChallenge 1.5). However, for whatever reasons (I suspect some Microsoft .NET issues), I couldn't make it run on my main machine and none of the suggested fixes helpt to remedy the problem e.g. reinstall KeePass and/or .NET. Hence, I have just ditched KeePass and switched to KeePassXC, no NET stuff involved, with built in Challenge Response.

Best
Jens

For those searching along:

  • I had the same error after updating .NET with 2.43 and 2.46. In both cases uninstalling KeePass, deleting the Plugin folder and reinstalling both worked for me.
  • KeePassXC supports Challenge-Response, however uses a different approach so you can not open databases encrypted with KeePass+KeeChallenge

In my case the problem has been the deployment by chocolatey. The powershell-script downloaded the zip file from here, but when copying the extracted files to keepass installation folder, it converted the filenames to lowercase ("keechallenge.dll" instead of "KeeChallenge.dll"). Just renaming this file to CamelCase solved my problem. It works also with version 2.47.
