Can you use MT32 Emulation via Serial Port?

Sorry if this seems like an obvious question but I just read this in the wiki:

The catch is that the receiving equipment must be able to handle PC baud rates. MIDI uses a baud rate of 31250bps, which is not a standard PC baud rate. The closest standard PC baud rate is 38400bps, and most synthesizers with a "PC" connection such as the Roland SC-55MkII or SC55-ST will use this baud rate.

I have an old laptop that has serial port and USB 1.0 but not a "game port". I wanted to use mt32-pi specifically for MT32 games (inc. ones with their own patches), but because the above quote only mentions the SC55 I'm concernced it wont be support 38400bps?

It should work as long as you use the SoftMPU and it's MIDI to RS-232 routing options.
