NET metering configuration

The instructions for enabling net metering dont make much sense to me. They State:

To configure energy returned to the grid for NET metering (more info here), you need to add the following configuration:

However I've tried adding this to the "standard" config multiple ways and get errors.

The instructions for this portion are not very clear, could somone help?

I simply would like to enable "NET metering" where the vue will keep track of power going both ways to/from the grid.

Can you give us an exact copy of the error you're getting? The fact that you're getting clear errors and not subtle inaccuracy is a good thing, but the full error is needed to understand what's gone wrong.

Oh Sorry, here are some different tactics I've tried with their respective errors:

1) Add (copy & paste) the code as given at the bottom of config file.

Duplicate key "sensor"
in "/config/esphome/emporia-vue-2.yaml", line 247, column 1
NOTE: Previous declaration here:
in "/config/esphome/emporia-vue-2.yaml", line 107, column 1

Well, easy to gather that you can't have "sensor:" twice.

2) Remove "sensor:" from supplied code and you're left with "- platform: emporia_vue", "- platform: template", and "- platform: total_daily_energy" under the original "sensor:" from the standard configuration:

'phases' is a required option for [sensor.emporia_vue].

So I need to add a bunch of required code to define "phases" in this new emporia_vue platform I'm defining? Figured that can't be right, the instructions would just have the required code in the supplied snippet from instructions?

3) Ok... maybe I am to replace "ct_clamps:" from the original config with the updated one, keeping "- platform: template", and "- platform: total_daily_energy" seperate down at the bottom of code

Now I'm redefining "phase_a_power" with "phase_b_power_return" but later code expects the old variable name, so should I go through all the code and update all the variables? That didn't seem right because I want both the "power" and the "power_return" values returned?

Clearly I'm over thinking this, the original instructions state so simply to "add this code to the config" but I'm managing to royally screw it up somehow.

Yeah, you're right, it's not as clear as it could be. Your final thought was nearly right:

The idea is that you add the stuff in the new ct_clamps: section to the end of the existing ct_clamps: section. The stuff under sensor: also gets added to the end of the existing sensor: section. So now you have two ct_clamps: entries featuring input: "A" and two featuring input: "B".

You don't delete anything existing, only add new lines.

Is it possible for you to provide a copy of your Yaml for this Project now that you have it working. Try as i might i keep getting errors as well. Its surely my lack of full understanding for formatting but i'm looking to learn where i'm going wrong. Thanks!

I know it's been a bit, but would second that a copy of the YAML would be very helpful. I'm trying to sort out my net metering and am getting negative values where I shouldn't. It feels like I'm missing a step and if you've got it working that could be a good guide.
