Show energy in kWh?

Could someone give some example of how to record the energy in kWh instead of Wh?

You can use filters and unit_of_measurement

      filters:
        # Multiplication factor from W to kW is 0.001
        - multiply: 0.001
      unit_of_measurement: kW

Note that the above can also be written like this, and that these two snippets mean exactly the same thing:

Assuming that the 1.44s sample rate in the yaml is reliable, you'd be able to use the formula on this stack: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/641818/convert-watts-collected-at-set-interval-over-set-time-period-into-kwh

khw = totalWatts * 1.44 / 3600

or

kwh = totalWatts * .0004

Although, be mindful that the yaml config wont really allow us to derive the true 'billing quality' kwh since it uses a sliding window moving average. Each sample reported to ha is actually an average of the last 12 samples ... but we send it every 6 samples. So each ha value is skewed by the prior value we already reported. You can actually observe this by looking at your series charts - When a circuit turns off there will always be 1 point that's halfway-ish between the last value and 0, this is because it is actually the average of 0 and that last value.

This large sliding window makes for less noise, but also less accuracy since the sample window is larger than the reporting window. Though, this also causes a falsely-low report when a load turns on, so i suppose it may average out well enough?

I don't think this is what the question was. This would give you the energy over an interval but the question seems to ask for total energy in kWh instead of Wh. That requires integration without reset/windowing and it's already implemented via total_daily_energy. Only factor of 1000 is off.

ah, i don't use the total_daily_energy since it's just a derived value and that'd require double the storage. I just compute it in grafana.

That’s all your choice but I just want to let you know that this comes with many caveats. It will be inaccurate.

The most accurate way is to perform the integration right on the Vue at high resolution and downsample afterwards. Many discussions on this forum.

but if you don’t care about energy and/or accuracy that’s another thing.

Hello, I ran across this and wanted to add my solution that I worked on after reviewing this thread.

Under the two sensors

    name: "Balance Daily Energy"
.
.
.
    name: "Total Daily Energy"

Change

    accuracy_decimals: 0
    filters: *throttle_time

to

    accuracy_decimals: 3
    filters: [ *throttle_time, multiply: 0.001 ]
    unit_of_measurement: "kWh"

and then under the Circuit x_name Daily Energy, change each one from

- { power_id: cir1, platform: total_daily_energy, accuracy_decimals: 0, name: "${circuit1_name} Daily Energy", filters: *throttle_time, device_class: energy, state_class: total}
to

- { power_id: cir1, platform: total_daily_energy, accuracy_decimals: 3, name: "${circuit1_name} Daily Energy", filters: [ *throttle_time, multiply: 0.001 ], device_class: energy, state_class: total, unit_of_measurement: "kWh" }

I then removed the ESPHome Device in HomeAssistant and added it back. They now show up as kWh vs Wh. Hope that helps someone!
