This is quite a recent issue that was introduced with commit 68790b4.
Changing the property "type_hint" on desktop-art.ui to desktop instead of dock makes the plugin disappear when you click anywhere on the desktop.
This obviously reverts the fix for issue #3. Would be nice if there is an alternative fix that doesn't break the plugin.
OS: Ubuntu 14.04, on trusty-proposed.

ok - can confirm the bug. Not sure though how to resolve. Will investigate when have time.

Would welcome thoughts and a code fix is possible.

EDIT: maybe this? http://askubuntu.com/questions/258829/create-a-gtk-window-insensitive-to-show-desktop-and-wont-show-in-launcher/258847#258847

I don't see how that could work, as it is on about the application's .desktop file.
This plugin doesn't have a .desktop file, unless it means having to modify Rhythmbox's .desktop file

For me I am able to disable and then enable the desktop-art and it will reappear so I don't have to close and reopen Rhythmbox

You can also alt + tab to get it back but there can't be any other windows as it won't be picked up. I don't know why.
