The addition of the set_timestamps method for presets in (see PR #270 ) made me think about a versioning/variations feature for presets. I think it would be a great feature if as a sound designer I could have multiple versions/variations of the same preset.
E.g. if I modify a preset from a soundpack, I want to be able to customize it but still keep the original.
I pretty often save intermediate preset versions when working on presets. Helpful for comparing later if I improved the preset or not.
So I often end up adding number suffixes to the preset name and end up with a lot of presets called 'Ultimate Bass', 'Ultimate Bass 01', 'Ultimate Bass 02', ...
Or if a soundpack get's an update and some presets got modifications, the soundpack creator could make use of preset versions.
With preset versions/variations a preset browser could show them as a single preset but with multiple sub-presets. (with the latest/newest variation as the parent node). Or maybe let the user decide via an option whether to show older preset versions or not.
But maybe it could be allowed to define multiple presets with the same subpath/load_key but with different timestamps???
(ATM the definition says subpaths have to be unique.)

It's only a rough idea. What do you think?
