$ hawk "," 'L.transpose'

should expand to

$ hawk -e 'asCSV "," L.transpose'

if there is an asCSV :: String -> ([[String]] -> [[String]]) -> (ByteString -> ByteString) in the list of candidates for the type-inference magic.
