On screen buttons (back, home, running programs) are normal brightness but should be dimmed.

They are dimmed properly on my LG smartphone so its a phone-specific issue

None of the existing screen dimmers out there are able to do that on mine. I guess @nerdouille is right, it's not an app fault.

The navigation bar also doesn't dim on my MotoX(2013).
There is another app on f-droid that works (https://bitbucket.org/gyrussolutions/yaab) but I like Dimmer more.
Maybe you could check YAAB's source to get a hint on how to fix this.

@bart9h there's another opensource brightness application called Dimmer here https://github.com/faizalumer/Dimmer and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.theAlternative.dimmer&hl=en giraffine's Dimmer seems to be a bit unstable on my phone and that one crashes less often.

@nerdouille this other Dimmer also don't work here on the nav buttons. (and why isn't it on F-Droid? I always search for Free apps there, before going to Play)
