We could but I do not really see a use case: Edi should be used for processing. But processing related to Slurm tasks, not tasks outside Slurm.
It is limited to 25 cores and 90 GB Mem, leaving enough resources for not slowing down RStudio server.
Also this would introduce more confusion in the "partition" world and require rewriting the docs.
Next, edi will become a login node only soon anyways (when we migrate to centos8) so it will be just for a short amount of time.
I'd say just start your processes. Lately everyone sticked to Slurm ;) and since then we had no issues.
Is it possible to create a group with all paritions but without edi? By that I can use "all" with a clear conscience not to fill up edi
