How are you guys using UtiLITI?

So for a little under a week now, I've been trying to load a map into UtiLiti to no avail. I'm currently using utiLiti v0.4.14, but have also tried versions below hat resulting in crashing (v0.4.13) or a pure black screen (v0.4.12). I'm going to Map --> Import --> Open and nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing? I've also tried re downloading the program.

You've got a console tab near the bottom-left of the window.
Do you get a error message when loading the ".tmx" map?
And have you got a crash file?

I'm guessing something's wrong with your map file.
Have you tried opening another ".litidata" file? (https://github.com/gurkenlabs/litiengine-ldjam42)
Are you using Tiled to create your maps?
Are you using a recent Tiled version? (https://www.mapeditor.org/)
I can help you better if you're willing to share your files.
Otherwise, wait for one of the devs to pass by.

Ok, now that I'm home from school, I can give you better messages. Sorry about that. Ok, so when trying to open the GOIN game.litidata file, I get the error file and meaage in the console listed here: https://gist.github.com/ZacharySeebeck2020/4176fc96604ab702132dc64dc741b369
Also, yep we're using the newest version of TIled to make our maps. Also, here's the GitHub repo for the project. The utiLiti application is in there so I don't have to remember to download it when I have to use a school computer.

Ok, so...
First of all, no reason to open the ".litidata" file as it contains nothing.
Secondly, I had trouble with your "Base Tile Map.png". I couldn't load it into Tiled even after fiddling with location and stuff. So I had to open it in "paint.net" and save it again as a PNG (btw: you shouldn't use spaces in any file name when programming). After saving the new PNG, it was 13kB bigger than the original, but don't know why...
Then, I loaded the new PNG as the tileset in Tiled. Saved and closed. Opened utiLITI. Created a new project with the location of the ".tmx" file folder.
And everything opened up as it should.
My guess is that the problem comes from the PNG you created ("Base Tile Map.png"). I don't know if it's compressed, corrupted or anything. But something's definitely wrong with it.

CalvinMT Hm. Ok. So I opened the photoshop file and reexported it as a PNG. Brought it into tiled, fixed the tile set. But I'm still getting the same "could not load map from file" problem.

Can you try something for me, please?
Follow these steps:

• - Create a new folder somewhere. Like on the desktop.
• - Copy/paste "level1.tmx", "level1.xml" and your tileset named as "Base_Tile_Map.png" into the newly created folder.
• - Open "level1.png" with Tiled and correct the tileset's path if needed. Then save and close Tiled.
• - Open up utiLITI. Create a new project through the "File" tab, and select the new folder in which you copy/pasted the files as above.
  This is to see if the error comes from a bad path handling.
  If you get the same message, then try to look-up and change some settings when your in Photoshop.
  I also advise you to use "paint.net" (https://www.getpaint.net/), ideal for pixel art.

What version of the jdk have you got.
I'm on jdk1.8.0_05.
I saw on some forums that they were planning to remove some JABX related files because they were deprecated.

Yep that did the trick. For one, I had Java 10 installed alongside 8 for some reason. Once I removed 10 I could load it just fine.

1. Can you post the crash log that should be in the same directory as UtiLiti (best place would be on like, gist.github.com)

• 2. What version of Java are you using? On windows the easiest way to check is by opening command prompt and typing ~~~~java -version

I got mine working by just redoing my map. I don't recall making any real changes to my methods, but maybe there was some nuanced setting I missed.
