@AdaRoseCannon, we've briefly discussed this but I can reach out to the library maintainers and the content creators to have a feedback focused community call.
I don't have much experience on the headset side, but it seems the WebXR API covers that use case very well.
In my view the adoption of WebXR for handheld AR use cases is being significantly held back by the enforced full-screen treatment of immersive-ar sessions, which limits layout freedom for designers (unlike a manual gUM + WebGL approach) and makes a fallback/polyfill for iOS impossible as Safari doesn't support the full-screen API.
