Feature Request: Merchants with default tags

Describe the feature

Basically I would like to be able to add default tags to a Merchant so:

• I can filter similar merchants like ride-hailing apps
• create new possibility for visualizations

Why is this feature important?

This feature is important for me because in my case my bank has the following columns detailing the transaction:

• Description: which I map to Category
• Information: which I map to Name

Leaving the tags empty.

@vanhalt I'm not sure I totally understand what you're asking for here. Are you asking for a way to add a "tag" to a Merchant so that in your merchants list you can filter them?

Does adding a Tag called ride-hailing to your transactions not meet your use case? If so, could you explain why?

I apologize for the convoluted explanation in my previous message.

Here's a clearer proposal (I hope):

Let's say a merchant, such as "Ride Happy," has one or more tags associated with it. When a transaction is assigned to this merchant, the default tags associated with the merchant would also be applied to the transaction.

This approach offers the following benefits:

• Reduced transaction modifications: Assigning a merchant to a transaction would automatically apply the appropriate tags, eliminating the need for manual tag modifications.

• Automated tag assignment: If we can develop a method to automatically identify merchants for transactions, tags could be assigned to transactions without any user interaction.

Example:

Merchant "Ride Happy": Tag A, Tag B
Transaction: "xxx Ride Happy xxxx" -> Tags A, B

What you're describing sounds like custom rules, like those found in Actual.

Yeah... that's actually what I was aiming for. Liked the concept of "Rules"...

Would be interesting to design something around this, maybe.

I agree with @hkamran80, this sounds like a great use case for "Rules" which we have on our roadmap; it's just not quite ready to implement:
