Description/Context

Right now, we are flooded by numerous "SimpleDB" cloudwatch alarms, some of which are signposting actual performance problems that we are ignoring.

Every alert MUST be actionable, and if it isn't, it shouldn't be an alert.

Plan/Design

  • Modify the RDS alerting code in Pulumi to eliminate the 'white noise' alerts around CPU usage so we can focus on the actual problems that matter.
  • Create follow on issues to actually modify the performance characteristics of our RDS databases to ensure that the now critical alerts don't fire.
