Whisper/Shout suddenly not working despite no changes. PTT works fine.

I have been having an issue for the last week or two where my Whisper to Current and Shout to Parent is not working. By not working I mean the following

• I light up in the talking UI with an orange icon (as it should)
• I do not appear in the talking UI for other users
• Other users cannot hear me

If I use my PTT key everything works fine. This configuration has been working without issue for over a year.

I have tried the following to resolve

• Full uninstall including wiping all settings
• Updating 'all the things' in Windows
• Three different versions of mumble including the latest dev build
• Deleting and recreating the whisper/shout bindings
• Assigning the bindings to mouse keys then keyboard keys and many other such variations
• All sorts of settings toggling (noise cancellation off, input switching etc etc.)

It's as if the key bindings are working fine on my end but not being picked up on the server. My client appears to think everything is working fine but the other users aren't getting anything.

Have any changes been made on the server side? E.g. connected to a different server, server update, etc.?

I resolved this last night.

Turns out that Windows 11 can have two default input devices. A system default and a default communication device.

For some reason PTT in mumble uses the system default and whisper / shout tries to use the default communication device.

I disabled all input devices except my desktop mic and the issue resolved without any settings being changed in mumble.
