In this post, I’d like to provide some background on the recent releases of the desktop client.

With the latest release, we’ve introduced a further feature version bump due to significant changes. Additionally, an error in the user agent header in version 3.14 made this update necessary.

What this means for the version roadmap:

  • 3.15: The latest version to be continued
  • 3.14: 🛑 Will be deprecated
  • 3.13: Maintained as the last version before major UI adjustments
  • 3.12: 🛑 Will be deprecated

For enterprise customers, the corresponding update channel for the client will be activated soon.

Key changes in 3.15:

  • Terms of Service (ToS) support
The Nextcloud Client now fully supports the Terms of Service app. When a (re)confirmation is required, the client will notify users.
  • Native UI improvements
We are moving towards a more native UI for all platforms. While recent changes with Qt have introduced challenges, this release marks another step forward in that direction.
  • Read-only Teams and Group Folders
The Nextcloud Client now better handles Group Folders and read-only shares with Teams. The improved r/o behavior reduces unexpected file additions or deletions.
  • Live Photos support
Handling of Live Photos (a combination of picture and video) has been enhanced to prevent accidental deletion of either file component.
