OME-Zarr in Hedwig

Hedwig pipelines will use OME-Zarr https://ngff.openmicroscopy.org/0.1/ for pyramid file generation.

Why?

• Upcoming images will be of a size that is no longer capable of being computed with current Neuroglancer specific pyramid file generation tools.
• Existing inputs, eg from larger FIBSEM inputs were already above what could be computed in reasonable time by Neuroglancer file generation utils.
• OME-Zarr is an open standard (not a one off Neuroglancer specific format) and as such has a large array of tooling available.
• OME-Zarr generation is very parallelization, and computationally efficient to generate. (Greater than 10x increase in performance.)
• OME-NGFF provide a standard way to represent microscopy meta-data.
• OME-Zarr support 5-D XYZCT data supported by Neuroglancer.
• OME-NGFF offer compression tools supported to improve compression efficiency, network bandwidth and reduce storage space.
