Variables in script arguments

Is there a way to use variables or parameters as script arguments for commands?
I would like to grab the base file name and add a suffix to it to avoid hard coding file names in post processing scripts.

No support for that yet unfortunately. There are some ideas how to do it, but it needs a bit of work.
