I tried to upload an image which turns out didn't have GPS data embedded.
Basically users are presented with an alert box which says "no GPS tags detected" and the only option is to press ok.
I ended up googling and using https://tool.geoimgr.com/ to add the GPS data. Could I suggest that the error message is more helpful and offers actual support to users who upload an image without GPS data? Perhaps some tools to add the GPS data could be listed on the page?
Of course a location picker would be an even better improvement but I'm assuming that's been suggested before? 😄

Thanks Michael. The reason we don't have a location picker is that, generally speaking, peoples' memories are poor. Or they find the tool hard to use and choose an inappropriate location. So we'd rather go off the embedded GPS tag.
We're also worried that it would lead to spam (or worse) if people could bypass the need for geocoding.
We're a bit reluctant to link to a specific tool - especially if it isn't open source.
Thanks for the reply, think the main thing is to improve the error message displayed.
I know what I'm doing with EXIF etc, but for someone else who wants to add a bench from a photo they took without their location enabled - if they encounter that alert box error message, they might not know what to do next and just give up instead.
Would it be possible for you to create a log file to record all of the occasions when someone uploads a photo without GPS data and the alert box is presented to them? That way you figure how just how often the situation occurs.
