As part of building out the privacy notice and policies, we noticed that inputting a phone number during account signup is mandatory for new instructors. I am unable to find documentation on why this decision was made to begin with but after talking with Creative Services and the privacy team, we concluded that this field could be made optional, which would hopefully increase signup since less information would be requested from the user.
