Any way to disable form-wide change event on remotely loaded options?

Scenario:
I'm using remote loading for a tom-select input. I begin typing the search query, the data loads. However, even if I don't select any option from the loaded options and click elsewhere to close the selector, tom-select is still triggering a "change" event to my form element, which I don't want.

Any way to disable triggering of this change event when no new value is selected?

It seems the event is not being triggered by tom-select but the search input itself. I'll probably end up ignoring the change event if it's triggered by the search input. Closing this.
