widgets width in preferences dialog

In the preferences dialog, the widgets on the right that correspond to pages content have a fixed width. For example, when maximizing the dialog, widgets such as lineedits should take advantage of the extra space.

I've tried a few things regarding this issue but nothing worked in the end: widgets are properly embedded into layouts that are supposed to handle resizing events. Seems really strange to me.
