pytest tests all pass but then failed with code 3221226505

On GitHub Actions my pytests all pass (CIBW_TEST_COMMAND: "python -m pytest {project}/tests"), but then I see this

I've tried lots of things including downgrading distlib to 0.3.3 and downgrading pip to 21.3.1.

The error might be related to pypa/pip#10875 but I haven't figured out a solution. This error is Windows only and no modifications were necessary for macOS pass the tests without issues. Any advice?

Edit: These pytests pass on my local windows machine. I can actually run python -m cibuildwheel --output-dir wheelhouse --platform windows locally and it results in the same failed with code 3221226505.

I didn't track down the problem precisely, but it went away somehow. It could have been something about C++ pointers...

if it may be connected with pointers then maybe try building with -DDEBUG which may allow showing where problem is,
