I found this sometime ago, which sounded perfect for our use-case.

WP Events Interface is a Wordpress Plugin that converts the common used Events Calendars in Wordpress to a Standard Interface, which can be used by other Plugins, which want to deal with events in Wordpress.

But unfortunately this extra dependency comes with another extra dependency.

The Plugin depends on the "WP Libraries" - Wordpress Plugin which need to be installed and activated first.

And on top, it was last updated 3 years ago, had all in all 0 issues and 0 PRs.

But the idea sounded like it could be a nice foundation to us, so I wanted to share.
