I think it'd be rad if this generator encouraged good accessibility practices or nudged folks in the right direction. Is there something in the templates that may be tweaked?

That template looks alright! It could benefit from landmarks, either with semantic HTML5 tags or ARIA roles, but otherwise it looks pretty good.
