For at least one person, the file extensions on built object files defaulted to .obj rather than .o, and it caused their contained sections to fail to match the patterns in the linker script, causing build errors.
Suggested fix: override the default file extension to always be .o for all users, or edit the linker script to match both (or more) extensions
