Multi‐country rollout

evrimm edited this page Aug 22, 2023 · 2 revisions

A single app, Bebbo, for all the countries is recommended instead of different applications for each country:

  • Same app name and same app icon to be used worldwide also helps to build brand name.
  • Easy to maintain the mobile app code in long run.
  • Scalable for all countries in future to introduce new functionality, one app Update required in play store and app store.
  • If a user changes any country, they don't need to uninstall the current app and install another app from the new country store.
  • App name, App details can be added for specific languages on play store and app store for localization.

The only exception is Kosovo that has its own app called Foleja. It uses the same global CMS but the app is branded with a different name.

App name in mobile phones

Mobile application name is set to different languages to support mobile language. So Bebbo app name is written in different languages and display it below app icons. This is done using localization of app name in iOS and android. Configured language is displayed according to mobile app language. If the mobile app language is not matched with the available language in the app, then English language is displayed.

App names display in the device based on device language.

Multilanguage support in stores

Apple Store

Once you add an app to your account, you can add languages and enter localized metadata on your App Information page which will display the app per user's primary language in the app store.

For example, if the primary language you select for your app in App Store Connect is English and it’s the only language you provide, your app metadata in all App Store territories appears in English. If you localize your app metadata in Serbian, users whose language setting is Serbian will see the Serbian localization. Users in territories where the App Store supports Serbian but not English also see the Serbian localization. Users can search for your app using localized keywords in all territories where the App Store supports Serbian. If there’s no localization available that matches the language setting, the next most relevant localization is used. In other App Store territories, users see your metadata in the primary language (English in this example).

Below details can be localized for different language:

  • Name
  • Subtitle
  • Licence Agreement
  • Screenshots
  • App Preview
  • Promotional Text
  • Description
  • Keywords
  • Support URL
  • Marketing URL
  • What’s New in this Version
  • Privacy Policy URL
  • Privacy Choices URL

Play Store

In the play store, you can add translations for your app's store listing page, APK files, strings, or in-app products. You can add translation by yourself, or purchase auto translation by store and apply them through the Play Console.

If a user's language preference matches the translation languages you've added, they'll see the translated version of your app. You can also add localized graphic assets for your store listing pages.

If you add text translations without localized graphic assets, your app's graphic assets is shown from the default language.

Below details can be localized for different language:

  • App Title
  • App Icon
  • Descriptions
  • Graphic assets

Below table is prepared and managed by UNICEF for the store localization.
