Skin Editor
7.5.0 adds access to an online skin library where user can share and use custom clothing and hairstyles.
You can browse and select assets without logging in, but for sharing stuff or liking content to add it to your personal collection requires authentication via Google. That avoids most spam without storing any sensitive user data.
You know the rules and so do I
To ensure this public library stays enjoyable for everyone, here are the two basic rules uploader have to follow, and users are encouraged to enforce using reports (Show details using the triple dot -> report icon -> "Against Rules").
The asset should show at least minimal quality, that is, resemble at least roughly a piece of clothing / haircut.
Forbidden skins are for example:
- It's not a skin at all
- The face is visible on a haircut, thus looking absolutely off when tinted with the hair color
- Random lines or errors
If your skin is illegal in certain countries, or is inappropriate to a significant amount of people, it's forbidden.
- Offensive Content: Skins that promote hate speech, racism, sexism, or any form of discrimination. This includes Nazis.
- Violence or Gore: Skins that contain excessively violent or gory imagery.
- Explicit Adult Content: Skins that feature explicit sexual or pornographic material.
- Endorsement or Impersonation of Public Figures: Let's stay within Minecraft. No public figures related to political or otherwise inappropriate topics.
Invalid skins (that is, assets containing skins and thus not working as clothing) are not strictly forbidden but automatically hidden by default. But this auto flagging tends to fail. You can help by reporting it as "Invalid Texture".
Drag and drop either a premade clothing or a vanilla skin into the library. Legacy 32px skins and Slim formats will get converted. Now make sure the skin only contains the clothing; no face, no skin, no hair. Please set meta info like name and profession. Hit publish and optionally tag your content (e.g.: medieval, modern, ...) so it's easier to find.
Your initial skin (left) should then look like the right one.
Similar as the clothing, but the final product needs to be a grayscale, rather bright image as it is tinted based on genes. I recommend deleting all non-hair, and then converting it to grayscale. Adjust brightness and contrast at the final step.
Your initial skin (left) should get cleaned up (center), then converted to black and white, with tendency towards white (right image).
